Peplum Power!
Fashion has taken its course again, and it brings us back to the exaggerated, flirty, fall trend (Fall 2011, pre-fall 2008 etc), which is headlining SS2012, the Peplum! Peplum, originally started in the 40s, as a short piece of fabric/over-skirt added over a dress or skirt to add a little pizzazz as well accentuate the waist of the ladies without inviting too much attention. So the vintage peplum, if you notice, tend to be little longer and less conspicuous. We would say, they lean more towards an elegant, structured look.

However, modern day couturiers like Thierry Mugler, Ellie Saab, Yohji Yamamoto and many others have revived the romance and have added a certain edginess too. Though, women of all body types can embrace this trend, but peplum tends to glaze off more statuesque frames and should be avoided by women who are short and fuller around the waist. Also, modern peplums tend to be shorter and more flared than frilly, though its not a rule. They are usually used to add statement to a fitted body-con. Also if you have more of a straight figure, then peplum jackets with shoulder pads might just be what you are looking for.
A peplum jacket can be worn to the board-room, cocktail-party, or fashion soiree. It can also be worn over a simple pair of jeans to add a tad bit of drama.
